DIY: Homemade Dishwasher Soap
Things You’ll Need
- Boiling water – 1½ cup
- Castile soap (scented or unscented) – ¼ cup
- Washing soda – 2¼ teaspoon to 1 tablespoon
- Glycerine – ½ teaspoon
- A few drops of essential oil (lime, orange, lemon, juniper or lavender)
- Used pump dispenser or dish soap squirt bottle
- Other types of soaps which may include pure coconut oil
soap for the laundry. However, when using this soap you may have to
check the consistency of the washing soda that you add to the
preparation. Sometimes, the coconut oil soap may come off as super
watery, though in such a case it can be reheated with an added amount of
washing soda till the preparation reaches the desired consistency.
Method of Preparation
Step 1- Grate the bar of soap as finely as possible. Ensure that the final bowl of grated soap does not have any chunks.Step 2- Pour water into a saucepan and place in on the stove over medium heat. Now add the grated soap to the saucepan and stir until the soap completely dissolves.
Step 3- Once the bar soap has dissolved, remove the saucepan from heat and pour the mixture into a container. You could also pour it directly into the dispenser provided the mouth of the dispenser is wide enough for the ingredients to be mixed. Now add the liquid soap solution, 2¼ teaspoons of washing soda, glycerine and essential oil into the dispenser and stir thoroughly. Let the soap set for at least 24 hours. Keep stirring from time to time to check for the consistency. The mixture will thicken over time. If you want the dishwasher soap to be thicker, you could reheat it with ¾ teaspoon of washing soda and, then, let the mixture set again. You could keep repeating the steps till you get the desired thickness.
